DISCOVER: Kintsugi with Studio Ranj

Tuesday 10th August: 4pm

2 hours long

This summer at Birch we are offering The Midweeker, a new type of stay from Monday to Thursday that offers a wide range of incredible experiences for guests. Commencing on 12th July and set over eight consecutive weeks, each week will be both a celebration and exploration into a different theme.

For our fourth week, our theme is Discover and we are excited to be partnering with some amazing talent to provide a 4-day programme full of fun and interesting opportunities.

In this session, you will how to use the ‘kintsugi’ technique of ceramic repair in this workshop with potter Ranjit Dhaliwal from Studio Ranj. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramic by mending with a mixture of resin and gold-coloured powder which hardens to accentuate breaks and chips, breathing new life into a piece that would be otherwise destined for the bin.

£40 / person

Ages 12+ (Ages 12-16 need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian)

Need to know:

1) Selection of pieces to be repaired and taken away after the workshop. Participants will have a choice from a collection of vintage British crockery.

2) Participants practise their own kintsugi.

3) Pieces to be collected from 1-2 hours after the workshop or preferably the next day. A box and tissue paper will be provided to wrap the work.
