Young Adventurers Club

Explore a world without walls – fun and adventure for children at Birch. Remember the summers spent climbing trees, making mud pies and special ‘perfumes’ from rain water and petals? Returning home smeared with grass stains, sun kissed faces, tired, with so many adventures to tell of. We help create the same fond memories for your children at Birch, fresh air, adventure and games limited only by their imagination, while under the guidance of our resident nature enthusiasts and educators from Be Free Forest School.

Every session is different, but as a general rule we will introduce friends through a game, a nature connection activity, and then dedicate time to ‘creative play’ in the woods, guided by our team. ‘Creative play’ often includes den building, making potions in the mud kitchen, looking for bugs, but can also include using tools to make a flag, or foraging, the children take the lead and the team facilitate. We always have a mesmerising camp fire, and include some mindful ‘noticing’ exercises in the woods.

Parents with unaccompanied children (over 5) must complete the parent permission form at least 30 mins before a session, here’s a link so you can be organised, drop off and get your class/cocktail on time: REGISTRATION FORM

10am session (Ages 2-7):

Suitable for little adventurers aged 2-7 and their parent(s). Children 5 and over may come unaccompanied, please complete the registration form.

A family adventure! Tailored for our youngest members of Birch community (ages 2-7), we will share a story or game to springboard into play. Play will be focused on sensory experiences (taste, touch, smell, sound, sight) and nature connection.

Every week’s theme is different, upcoming examples include Summer solstice, 30days wild, Butterfly day, summertime foraging, bees, the sun!, boats and water play.  Free choice is encouraged during ‘free play’ and includes hammocks to chill, nature craft, a stocked mud kitchen, balance beams, tree swings and den building. We always finish with a cheery song of grattitude for nature and wave you off feeling full of the joys of the season.

Come dressed for the Summer weather – only cooler, temperatures are always lower in the forest, so bring layers, long trousers (help prevent scratches and stings), a sun hat if it’s bright. When it rains, good jackets are a must for happy wild ones and only ever closed-toed shoes please. We have outdoor shelters and an indoor room which we have on standby for a session if the weather is very windy. If forced indoors, we offer hands on environmental education activities and nature craft.

1pm session (Ages 5-12):

Children can come unaccompanied, please complete the registration form.

In Summer we make sure our Forest School activities make the most of the abundance of plants and warmth, on our beautiful Birch estate, nature thriving in every corner. Past examples include using tools to make bows and arrows, building rope swings and stick forts, foraging for ingredients for our snack, environmental art.

A wild life is a happy life. Come on an adventure into the wild, with scavenger hunts, foraging, games, den building, bush craft, relaxing in the hammocks and mindfulness in nature.  The camp fire is integral to our wind down and we always allow time for creative play in our woodland base camp. Our qualified and experienced Forest School team will capture your wilding’s imaginations with things to see and do in nature in a friendly, safe and relaxed environment. We do not provide lunch, just a snack and a drink.
